Creative Positions for Volunteers ... and ... Volunteer Recognition Ideas, Best Practices and Tips for Recognition on a Budget

President Obama has brought volunteering into the spot light! This is great! But, many of us have an abundance of volunteers! What do I do with all these people?

Volunteer Recognition is as important as ever, but what are some creative ways to recongize volunteers? My budget was cut in half, now what do I do?

Join us for our monthly NOVAA meeting on Thursday, Feb 19th as two NOVAA board members (LouAnne Tabada and Brenden Butler) lead a discussion on these topics. We've got some good ideas to get things started ... and then we want to hear what YOU'RE doing in your agency!

When: Wednesday, March 4th
Time: 9:00am – 10:30am
Where: Portland State University, Smith Memorial Union, Room 258

Who should come: Volunteer managers/coordinators with three or more years of experience in volunteer management.

Topic: Entrepreneurial Volunteering – discussion will include trends, how to manage and recruit these volunteers. How do we work with staff to embrace this type of volunteer?

Volunteer Management 201 Workshop
In Cooperation with NOVAA and TACS, the four outstanding presenters, (Autumn Ray, Nancy Gaston, June Bass, and Jim Laden,) from February’s Volunteer Management workshop will be teaching the Volunteer Management 201 Workshop, to be held on May 1st, 2009. The workshop is an in-depth exploration of strategies essential for successful volunteer leadership. This advanced training is designed for staff members who have primary responsibility for leading volunteer programs and can draw upon substantial experience in this profession. Participants will build upon their understanding of volunteer program leadership and master new tools and techniques to increase program effectiveness.
Expert trainers from NOVAA will explore:
• Key leadership skills for volunteer managers
• Risk Management
• Volunteer program evaluation strategies
Attendance at a previous Volunteer Management 101 workshop is not required.
