What organization do you currently work for?
I work for the Oregon Humane Society. I am glad that through my work, I have the opportunity to educate others on animal welfare issues and can be a voice for companion animals.

What has been successful in your volunteer program that other members would be interested in hearing about?
I think that a lot of people underestimate how much youth can do for their organization and wholly underutilize them. OHS Youth Volunteers are greatly responsible for making sure that nearly half of our dogs (about 40) get walked on a daily basis. They also provide our animals with socialization, enrichment activities, and training, as well as help with general animal care (feeding, grooming, and cleaning). Many teen volunteers help train new youth volunteers, teach classes, and lead projects, too. Some of my Youth Volunteers are so motivated that they take-on fundraising efforts on their own and move-on to help our general volunteer and education programs. As a result of their involvement, many Youth Volunteers become adopters and life-long supporters/conveyers of our mission. They are vital part of our volunteer force and organization as a whole.

What was your favorite volunteer opportunity as a volunteer?
Initially, I became involved at OHS as a volunteer in the cattery. I really enjoyed nurturing the cats by feeding, cleaning and spending time with them. I also loved helping adopters find their perfect match. It is heart-warming to know that I helped (and continue to help
