Cait Burke

This month, say hello to Andy Meeks! 

Where does he work? The Volunteer and Outreach Manager at Friends of Trees

An interesting tidbit: He used to practice law.

What is his favorite techie solution? Google Forms! It is pretty straightforward to use and free. He uses them to collect info from people online and (through links) by email. For example, volunteers can sign up for upcoming trainings using a Google Form.

What trainings would he recommend that he took recently? He’s currently participating in the Non-Profit Association of Oregon’s Diversity Leaders Network series, a training for those that are heading up diversity initiatives in their organizations. He also recommends NAYA Family Center’s Working in the Native American Community training, which is hosted each year just before the Native American homeownership fair.

What are his goals for the future? He is excited to lead an effort to expand his organization’s reach beyond the Friends of Trees’ traditional demographic. He’s thought about taking the exam for the Certification in Volunteer Administration (CVA). (Note: Feel free to check out NOVAA’s study groups for the CVA.)

A bit of kudos for his program: Friends of Trees’ Neighborhood Trees Program won the 2011 Governor’s Volunteer Award for Outstanding Volunteer Program for Region 1. Congrats to Andy, all Friends of Trees’ staff and their awesome volunteers!
